Off-grid mesh messenger

Talk without towers.

When there's no signal, no Wi-Fi, and no server in reach, LocalLink keeps you connected. Messages hop phone-to-phone over a Bluetooth mesh, so a conversation survives dead zones, thick walls, and packed campuses.

  • No cell tower
  • No servers
  • No accounts
  • End-to-end encrypted
The problem

Coverage still fails where people gather.

Even in 2026, connectivity drops to near zero in the places you'd least expect: tree-heavy campuses, basements, concrete stairwells, domed halls, and crowded events where the towers are simply overwhelmed. When the network dies, so does coordination โ€” right when you need it most.

What you get

Built for the dead zones.

Bluetooth mesh

Messages relay device-to-device through up to 7 hops, extending range far past any single phone. No internet required.

End-to-end encrypted

Private messages use the Noise protocol with forward secrecy. Your identity is derived from keys, not phone numbers.

Location channels

Join coarse geohash rooms to reach people nearby โ€” never your exact GPS. The mesh, extended over public relays when online.

Spread it offline

No app store? Share the installer directly to another phone over a local hotspot โ€” the mesh grows itself.

No accounts, no tracking

No sign-up, no phone number, no data collection. Ephemeral identities that rotate โ€” triple-tap the logo to wipe everything.

Voice, images & files

Send voice notes, photos, and files across the mesh โ€” not just text. Runs quietly in the background to keep the network alive.

How it works

Every phone is a relay.

  1. 01

    Open LocalLink

The app quietly advertises over Bluetooth LE and discovers other LocalLink users around you.

  2. 02

    Peers form a mesh

Nearby devices link up automatically into a self-healing network โ€” no setup, no pairing.

  3. 03

    Messages hop across

Your message relays phone-to-phone toward its destination, reaching people well beyond Bluetooth range.

  4. 04

    Reach further, online

When someone in range has internet, location channels extend the conversation over public relays.

Get the app

Install LocalLink

Android 8.0+ (API 26 and up) and macOS 13+ (Apple Silicon or Intel). Grab the latest build from GitHub Releases, then install it on your phone or Mac.

Installing a downloaded APK

  1. Download the .apk to your Android phone.
  2. Open it โ€” Android will ask to allow installs from this source. Approve it.
  3. Tap Install, then grant Bluetooth, location, and notification permissions on first launch.
  4. Share it onward: use the in-app hotspot sharing to install LocalLink on nearby phones with no internet at all.

Heads up: sideloaded APKs are self-signed for testing. If an older LocalLink is already installed with a different signature, uninstall it first.

Installing on a Mac

  1. Download LocalLink-1.0.0-mac.dmg, open it, and drag LocalLink into Applications.
  2. Open LocalLink. The first time, macOS blocks it because it is not notarized by Apple yet. Go to System Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security, scroll down, click Open Anyway next to LocalLink, and confirm.
  3. Allow Bluetooth when asked. Your Mac then finds nearby LocalLink phones (and bitchat users) with no internet.
  4. Send files: in any mesh chat, click the paperclip โ†’ choose file, or drag a file onto the chat. Files up to 1 MB.

Phones on LocalLink 1.0.3 accept files up to about 100 KB from a Mac; larger files need the next Android release. The Mac app is built from bitchat's macOS app.
